Between 9 and 12 months, baby's digestive system is ready to welcome leafy greens. It's a crucial step that paves the way for a diversified, balanced diet for years to come.

An essential nutritional trio

Green vegetables provide a unique cocktail: non-heme iron, plant calcium, and vitamin K. These nutrients work in synergy to support cognitive and bone development.

The secret: start with well-cooked, finely puréed leaves, then gradually increase texture.

African leaves to prioritize

Africa offers a remarkable diversity of edible leaves, often underused for little ones. Here is our 9–12-month selection:

🥬
Spinach
Iron, vitamin K, magnesium
🌿
Cassava leaves
Protein, vitamin A
🍃
Amaranth (lalo)
Calcium, iron
🌱
Baobab (kuka)
Vitamin C, antioxidants

In practice

Introduce one leaf at a time over 3 to 4 days, watching baby's reaction. Favor steaming or broth cooking, which preserves nutrients while softening fibers.
